Being the one who is faced with making these types of decisions can make our job more stressful, but thankfully there are steps we can learn to take which is known as the decision making process. This process helps us identify the problem and look at alternatives to help us solve the problem. Once the problem is identified it is up to the manager to look at all areas of the situation and weigh out the pros and cons of the decisions you have come up with. Never jump at the first thought that comes to mind always look at the decision criteria. After reading over the scenarios provided I have decided to go with scenario 2 which provides information about a problem that has been brought to the nursing home administrators and the infectious control officer’s attention. According to the information that I have read the nursing home is experiencing high infection rates within its facility and these rates are increasing. If the nursing home keeps experiencing high rates of infection they can be fined and with this type of facility many more patients can become ill if nothing is done. So as you can see this is a situation that we have to give prompt attention to and find the best solution for before anyone else falls ill or the company has to close its doors. There are different approaches to decision making that we can explore, but we need to find the best approach for this certain scenario. After reviewing the different types of approaches the two I would choose are rationality and intuition. The reason for choosing thes e types of approaches are because this seems to best for this scenario. When using rationality this means the person will make logical and consistent choices that are best for everyone involved and anyone who holds a management position knows that by thinking  things thru rationally will give you the best choice of action to take. The reason for this is because you are weighing the pros and cons and thinking logically. The second approach I would take is relying upon intuition. I know some people think that it is almost impossible to make a decision upon someones intuition, but if you know the facts and know the situation you can usually go by your intuition. The reason is because you know the problem that exists and know there has to be steps made to correct this issue quickly. Making decisions as a group can be a great thing because everyone can give their input and you can toss around different ideas and suggestions. Short Summary of Vietnam Vietnam was a struggle which, in all honesty, the United States should never have been involved in. North Vietnam was battling for ownership of South Vietnam, so that they would be a unified communist nation. To prevent the domino effect and the further spread of communism, the U.S. held on to the Truman Doctrine and stood behind the South Vietnamese leader, Diem. Kennedy and Diem were both killed in 1963 and 1964. Johnson took control of the situation by increasing the amount of money and manpower put into Vietnam. Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, giving the president full military power. After Johnson dramatically escalated the amount of soldiers in Vietnam, The North Vietnamese mounted a surprise attack during the Vietnamese new year, and this strike was called the Tet Offensive. It made America more aware of what they were up against, that the communists were capable of fierce, guerrilla warfare, unlike anything Americans had ever fought before. Images of the terror and disarray reached back home, and the U.S. began to wonder how effective their involvement in Vietnam really was. As we got further and further into the Vietnam War, few lives were untouched by grief, anger and fear. The Vietnamese suffered the worst hardship; children lay dead in the street, villages remained nothing but charred ashes, and bombs destroyed thousands of innocent civilians. Soldiers were scarred emotionally as well as physically, as The paranoia and fear of death never left them. The My Lai Massacre occurred in 1968, when the village of My Lai was completely destroyed, although it did not contain a single enemy troop. Over a hundred villagers were slaughtered. It became clearer to Americans how soldiers were losing control, and how there was no easy way to win this war. The draft took more and more people in as the years went on, and in1968 it peaked to over 500,000 soldiers involved in Vietnam. The government was so desperate for troops that even men with poor eyesight fought, and no education was needed. The people began to strike out and a revolution took place to restore peace to the nation. Heathcliff: Victim or Villain? Essay

Although Heathcliff was a victim several times within Wuthering Heights, does this justify his immoral actions that hurt those around him? It is true that Catherine is extremely selfish, but she never intentionally or deliberately planned to hurt anyone in this novel. Heathcliff’s manipulative and vengeful actions are truly those of a villain. Heathcliff as a Victim: Nelly’s unwillingness to acknowledge Heathcliff’s presence to Catherine in a crucial time allowed him to overhear the hurtful things that she was saying. If Nelly had tried to stop Heathcliff from running away, he may have been present to hear all of the positive things that Catherine would later declare about him. Although Heathcliff is her soul mate, Catherine married Edgar instead because of his money and social status. Her selfishness makes Heathcliff a victim, and denies him of his true love. Heathcliff is a victim because his parents left him, and because of his darker skin. The Linton’s show prejudice towards him, and judge him by his looks. Catherine as a Victimizer Catherine truly hurts Heathcliff by marrying Edgar, whom she does not love. She knows that Heathcliff is her soul mate, but does not find him suitable for a husband. Her selfishness in turn causes many problems throughout the novel. When Edgar visits Wuthering Heights to see Catherine, she betrays Heathcliff by telling him to leave her and Edgar alone. Although Heathcliff and Catherine’s relationship was very strong, she completely forgets about him once Edgar arrives. Catherine expects everybody to do what she says, and becomes hysterical when  people do not. She pinches Nelly in a fit of passion, which shows her instability as a character. Heathcliff as a Villain Heathcliff purposely influences Hareton, who was at the time a young child, to hate his father. His negative affect on Hareton causes him to curse, and to tell people that his father Hindley is the devil. Heathcliff marries Isabella in order to hurt her brother, and treats her very poorly. He also hangs her dog for no reason other than to hurt anything associated with the Lintons (except Catherine, of course). This brutality shows how strong Heathcliff’s hatred truly was, and shows his willingness to hurt innocent people for revenge. He takes custody of Linton, who is terrified of his father. He is constantly weak, sick, and Heathcliff uses him to secure his fortune at Thrushcross Grange. He bribes young Cathy into marrying Linton, telling her she would not be able to see her dying father unless she did. Heathcliff knew that Cathy loved her father, but held her hostage until he had gotten what he had wanted. This displays how truly selfish he was, and to what extremes he would undergo in order to achieve his goals. Because of Heathcliff’s experiences as a victim, he became stronger and more determined to achieve his goals. However, no person has the right to express their anger on other innocent people, which is exactly what Heathcliff did. At first, we felt sympathy for his lack of luck in the first part of the novel. In the second half, we truly see what a horrible character he turns out to be.

Patients are administered drugs by their physicians to end their own lives.   Assisted suicide is related to Euthanasia which comes from the Geek language; eu which means ‘good’ and Thanatos which means ‘death’. It is the termination of person’s life with request from the person who wishes to commit suicide.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Euthanasia can be classified as under passive, active, physician assisted suicide and the involuntary euthanasia.   Active euthanasia can be described as causing death to a person by use of direct actions as requested by them. Physician assisted suicide on the other hand refers   to the practice of supplying information to the patient from the physician.   For instance, a physician may offer an overdose prescription to patients.   The killing of a person without their consent refers to involuntary euthanasia.   This is commonly done to patients in a vegetative state whose recovery is not possible (Robert, 1997). The whole idea of this seems to be that we are giving the doctors the right to kill. If someone wants to die, should they be forced to stay alive I experienced this with my mother-in law. She was very ill for many years but was really afraid of dying; people would always ask if she wanted to die. Now, the question always comes up, Should People be forced to stay alive I believe the answer is No; they shouldnt. By keeping a patient alive who doesnt want to live anymore can be viewed as a cruel and inhumane act. Looking at it from a religion point, most of them tell you to live life as you wish. So with Euthanasia philosophy is most likely, life centered on you and about life after death. The main purpose for pro-Euthanasia I would think is the case of Freedom of Choice. If a person really wants their life ended that badly, then they can choose to do so, but the case is actually making legal the right for a doctor to do so first, because in their constitutional mind, they d o whatever it takes to save a patients life. But even after all the facts and all the standards for making Euthanasia a concept of this nation, there is still the argument of why Euthanasia has to be stopped. Euthanasia is the intentional killing by act or non-act of a self-depended human being for his or her benefit and by their request. The key word in that statement is, Benefit. Is this really a beneficial act and does it help our society I donâ„ ¢t believe that it does help society at all. Looking at what I have written so far, sure, there are some reasons for either side to have the upper hand. But the fact of the matter is that the practice of euthanasia is one of the worst things that can happen in our nation. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 5 Many things affect this situation and show how horrible of a situation it really is, with things such as government, religion, politics, morals and common sense. For starters, the public has a huge role and say as to how this Euthanasia situation is. A substantial size of todays population feels that it is our democratic right, as individuals, to choose whether it is right or not to terminate someones life. This is not seen as murder by this portion of the population. But the stronger side says that it is Gods call to determine when one of his creationsâ„ ¢ time is over, and that we as human beings are in no position to play God. By having doctors perform the act, they override the divine function and interfere with Godsâ„ ¢ plan. With these religious concerns out there, a lot of controversy can start on the subject. Speaking on the topic of religion and Euthanasia, this subject also gets involved with Religious politics. According to a 2004 Gallup Poll, 53% of Americans think that Euthanasia is morally acceptable, while 41% of society feels that it is wrong. Questioning some of those who attend religious services nearly every week, only 33% regarded Euthanasia acceptable, which makes it a 20% difference. Evaluating these statistics from Gallup, its easy to see that religion plays a huge position in the deciding factors of what Euthanasia is in society. Since religion itself is concerned with issues of meaning and morality, life and death, its not surprising that, for many people, religious beliefs are the main basis for their opinions. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 6 There are still many different kinds of issues which make the Euthanasia debate keep stirring up our society. Euthanasia comes from the Greek word for easy death and is formally called mercy killing. There are four different types of Euthanasia: Active, Passive, Voluntary, and Positive. Voluntary involves a request by the dying person or their legal guardian. Passive Euthanasia is doing nothing to prevent death or letting someone die, also known as DNR or do not resuscitate. Active Euthanasia involves giving a lethal dose of toxins to cause death, and Positive involves taking deliberate action to cause death. As seen, there are many different ways of going about the situation of killing someone through Euthanasia. Seeing these methods, we know that there is some consent to whether the patient can choose to die and such, but its all about whether the doctor should be allowed to perform the act. In this case, itâ„ ¢s known as assisted suicide or simply helping someone d ie. All in all, its highly unethical for a doctor to participate in such an activity and help someone die when they should by all means be trying to save their life. The most popular opinion of Euthanasia is that this is an emergency exit for people, and if they have nowhere to turn in their time of need, this is their choice. Euthanasia is not going to be for just the terminally ill. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 7 There are two problems with this: the true definition of terminal and the changes that have already taken place to extend Euthanasia to those who are not completely terminal. Murad Jack Kevorkian, who spoke at the 1992 National Press Club, stated that terminal illness was, any disease that curtails life for even a day Looking at this statement, I think itâ„ ¢s very hard to break down the pain versus time of life to one daysâ„ ¢ pain (Smith 2010). Some laws define the word terminal as relatively short time, and there is also death expected in six months or less, which is also called hospice. With the situation of diagnosing time of life, it seems impossible to tell when someone really is leaving the Earth, such as, if someones supposed to go in a year or so, usually, they last for more like a couple years or more. The resilience of people these days beats a lot more odds than they ever have. Nowadays, Euthanasia activists have dropped terminal condition to other names such as hopelessly ill, incurably ill, or meaningless life (Smith, 2010). An article in the journal, Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, described assisted suicide guidelines for those with a hopeless condition. Hopeless condition was defined to include severe physical or psychological pain, terminal illness, or deterioration, physical or mental debilitation or a quality of life that is no longer acceptable to that individual. That means just about anybody who has a suicidal impulse (David, 1995). If we use that fact, saying that anybody with a suicidal impulse is worth giving up is unjust to the individual. We should be helping the people that are going through the hard times and not push them to go and take their own life. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 8 That is what they are basically told to do when euthanasia is given as an option. Most of the people that are even considering taking their life arent even all the way sain in the head as it is because of how much theyve already been going through. If the definition of terminal has changed this much, then just think how much its going to keep changing. It wouldnt be surprising if terminal illness was considered eventually viewed as something as simple as a bad case of pneumonia. As the definition of sickness keeps getting looser and looser, the more and more doctors are planning on making profits on this money scandal using Euthanasia (David, 1995). Wesley J. Smith, senior fellow at the Discovery Institute, states, physician-assisted suicide, if it became widespread, could become a profit-enhancing tool for big HMOs.drugs used in assisted suicide cost only about $40, but that it could take $40,000 to treat a patient properly so that they dont want the choice of assisted sui cide. This shown is easily a means of cost containment. In the United States, thousands of people have no medical insurance; studies have shown that the poor and minorities generally are not given access to available pain control, and managed-care facilities are offering physicians cash bonuses if they dont provide care for patients (David, 1995). I really donâ„ ¢t think the public will all too happy with this. It would be like refusing someone care after they are hurt. With greater and greater emphasis being placed on managed care, many doctors are at financial risk when they provide treatment for their patients. PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE 9 Legalized euthanasia raises many issues for the medical community. For example if a seriously ill or disabled person chooses to die rather than receive long-term care this will definitely impact the financial security and future of many medical professionals. When they are no longer able to provide long term care to these patients who normally would live at a medical facility for years. By taking that option away by offering euthanasia, you impact the financial aspect of the medical fields by possibly millions of dollars. If euthanasia does get legalized, and choosing death is ok and the doctor is allowed to perform this, then doctors are going to try and convince everyone not do take this route. Since this is going benefit them and have them profit off of it, then of course theyâ„ ¢re going to do anything they can to argue why they shouldnt be living the life they are living and will probably even stretch a lot of the truth about the current condition they would be in. As Leon Kass, M.D., Ph.D. said, The prohibition against killing patients stands as the first promise of self-restraint sworn to in the Hippocratic Oath, as medicines primary taboo: I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect As much as Euthanasia supporters will say, Euthanasia will not only be voluntary to the public (David, 1995). For this fact, psychological and emotional pressures can stand in the way and if theyre saying that its basically the same situation by choosing life or death, then the patient would feel guilt and want death (David, 1995). In A Theory of Justice John Rawls presents his argument for justice and inequality. Rawls theorizes that in the original position, a hypothetical state where people reason without bias, they would agree to live in a society based on two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 4). These two principles of justice are named the first and second principles. The first is the equal rights and liberties principle. The second is a combination of the difference principle and the fair equality of opportunity principle, or FEOP (Rawls 1971, 53). Rawls argues that inequality will always be inevitable in any society (Rawls 1971, 7). For example, there will always be a varied distribution of social and economic advantages. Some people will be wealthier than others and some will hold places of greater importance in society. Rawls’s argument is that to ensure the stability of society the two principles of justice are needed to govern the assignment of rights and regulate the inequality (Rawls 1971 , 53). Any infringement of an individuals rights or inequality outside the parameters of the principles of justice are unjust. In order to understand Rawls, one has to understand the theoretical concept of the original position. It lays the groundwork for Rawls’s argument by providing a foundation for society. Calling it a state where people reason without bias is a very general definition that does not at all fully explain all of the different aspects of the original position. The original position, according to Rawls, has to do with a social contract (Rawls 1971, 11). People agree to rules in society that are pursuant to their own general well being. However, they decide on these rules behind what Rawls calls a veil of ignorance. Behind this veil of ignor... ... his principles of justice to evaluate such an inequality. If rights were not being infringed then he would immediately move on to the second principle criteria. In this scenario, if the workers were getting the greatest benefit then the inequality presented would be justified. For example, if the corporation were putting the increased profits into safer equipment for its workers, or providing insurance, compensation, etc. then it could be said that the inequality is justified. However, if the corporation were keeping it’s profits then the workers are least advantaged, but not getting the greatest benefit, so the inequality would be unjust in Rawls eyes. The Silver-tongued Rapist in Lolita    You can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style. So says Humbert Humbert at the start of Lolita in his account to the "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury" (9). He refers to himself as a murderer (he is, after all, "guilty of killing Quilty"), not as a rapist, the far more serious offense Lolita levels at him. That I, and everyone else who reads the book, call Dolores Haze by the name "Lolita" demonstrates the efficacy of Humbert's fancy prose style - under the spell of his aesthetic mastery, we, the jury, must bend to his subjective vision through memory, and thus we see the twelve-year-old nymphet as Lolita, as she is in Humbert's arms. It is difficult to castigate Humbert when we see the world through his European eyes.    Humbert's main strength is his sense of humor. Nabokov is sure to throw Humbert's way all the American kitsch he can handle - mostly in the form of Charlotte Haze. Introduction of a New Venture Creation Our aim- to engage with SimVenture; a business simulation that allowed us to build and sell computers through our virtual company named ‘Genesis’. The formation and running of our virtual company integrated us with new venture creation and about being an entrepreneur. It reinforced concepts previously presented in our course lectures and engaged us in a competitive and volatile business environment. SimVenture ran for three virtual years with five members on its team- each with a different role in the company. Competitor research was also carried out to see what products were offered at what prices so that we could decide the mix of attributes and price of our product.In an article ‘How Competitive Forces Shape Strategy' in Harvard Business Review (2008), Michael Porter discussed the factors that lead to changes in strategy due to competition. As per the needs of Corporations, our product design had vast features, good performance and style, and average qua lity. We purchased components for Genesis throughout the three years from a small wholesaler, Sourceline, who offered the best discounts relative to credit terms. From commencement, we decided to outsource all production since this would give us more time to invest somewhere else in the business.This however, can affect the business negatively because of problems of relying on the producer in terms of delays. Even so, this saved us time, space and equipment. Lastly, we held annual exhibitions for three years at ‘Meet the Corporate Buyer’ to promote our product to the corporate sector.Competitive pricing was adopted, making the product relatively cheaper for the superior attributes Genesis offered as compared to the competitors. Sales channels were kept at various hours in personal selling (entrepreneurial marketing) and a contract with a distributor to sell our product from the second month of the operation of Genesis was concluded. In the third year, a major accomplishment of the business was the addition of another distributor which sufficiently expanded sales. It was crucial to ensure that stress levels for the employees and entrepreneur was controlled, because if neglected, this would decrease efficiency and lead to obscuring time management.The entrepreneur was heavily trained in sales and marketing, fields he was not experienced in, since being an only employee at the start, it was up to him to suffice sales. Another key decision taken was that the entrepreneur was made to work full time and quit his previous job (as long as his income was not less than that at his previous job as this could be a dissatisfa ctory factor), so that he could concentrate more on Genesis and make it his primary source of income. Finally, maintenance, cleaning and IT support were also contracted out, creating a sound structural base for Genesis and saving time on trivial matters. pic] Relocated Premises of Genesis Financial Aspect of Genesis This section will critically evaluate the financial performance of Genesis and will be an explanation of the available financial data on the business. [pic] First and foremost, we needed our monetary sources mapped out to overcome the financing gap many small firms face. The ? 10000 of savings of the entrepreneur was taken as the start-up capital to finance our new venture. We also acquired two grants of ? 500 each from the government for training and promotion of new ventures.Being a new business, we could avail the option of taking a loan from friends and family or from a bank, but opted not to do so as this would only raise our future costs in terms of interest payments. Lastly, selling equity to private investors was ruled out as we did not want to dilute the ownership of the business. We hired a bookkeeper in the first month of the business so that we could be updated with the accounts and forecasting of Profit and Loss, Cashflow, Balance Sheet, Ratios, Budgets and Targets. This is crucial for any business because it shows if the company is financially viable.Moreover, we used ratios to analyze company figures. In the above figure, we see that the rate of capi tal employed is 34%, showing that the company is profitable. The current ratio is supposed to be around 1. 5 to be good in terms of liquidity. The current ratio of Genesis is at 10. 4, demonstrating that there is less risk for customers and stakeholders to lose their money. Since we took no loans, our gearing ratio is zero. The asset turnover ratio shows us that the company’s assets are being used efficiently to generate sales (greater than 1 shows that the company is operating efficiently).As discussed earlier, we purchased components from Sourceline. Sourceline offered a 30 days payment term and provided 10% discount for purchases done for over 2000 components. This was favourable for us since by the end of three years, 18500 components were ordered, availing the 10% discount. The credit terms gave us time to pay our debts and that money could be utilized somewhere else in the business. From the profit forecast, and the last operational month’s costs, we get the brea keven point of 83 units. This is considerably lower than the actual sales of 295 units and shows the success of the company by its large margin of safety.Throughout the three years, we saw a steady increase in the bank balance from ? 207,000 at the end of the first year to ? 1,044,500 by the end of the third year. Our problem- we had lost the venture on the computer! We had to play it all over again and just hope that it kept going as smooth as it did in the previous game. And it did. That being said, there were still decisions that we could have taken differently to provide a different outcome for Genesis.Perhaps we could have decided differently with respect to costing strategies, for example by dividing the costs of the business (advertising etc) evenly throughout the year instead of incurring them together at the start of each year. Also since there were a lot of leads generated and not enough sales in comparison, advertising could have been decreased, allowing more resources to be available for the business. Furthermore, we could have not implemented just-in-time (JIT) stock and kept stocks so that the first two months could have been utilized for production even though there were no sales.Another decision taken differently could have been that we c ould have started doing partial in-house production after the first year since significant idle time emerged. The product of Genesis could also have been altered to a different mix of attributes to show an innovating product which has reached its maturity period and now wants to sustain its growth. When we decided a 10% decrease in price for two months, our product was ‘better than it needed to be’, showing that we were bordering the line of giving the customer too much for its price. Lastly, we neglected to conduct a SWOT and PEST analysis.These could have provided us with a major competitive advantage if we were in the real world and in fact, would have been a necessity. Downsizing the Human Resources Department Essay

Human Resources Department manager Pat Sutton is requesting the downsizing of the Human Resources Department. Instead of the eight employees already in place, Pat wants the department pared down to five employees. She wants the names of three employees selected to be terminated. There is no other alternative to termination, and the company policy states that there can be no early retirement and no moving laterally to another department. Cost-cutting measures are now requiring that five employees do the work of eight. In addition to the names of the three employees recommended for termination, Pat wants to know what action management should take if any of the three employees decide to file a discrimination case against the company and what the employees would have to prove in order to win a discrimination case. Employees Recommended for Termination Pat, I have chosen the three employees to be terminated based on their skill set, work experience, and job function within the Human Resources department. The three to be terminated are: Diane—she has been with the company for 10 years, and although she is an outstanding worker, her attendance problems have cost the company. Horatio—he has only been with the company for six months, is just learning insurance and health matters, and his skills are marginal at best. Greg—he has been with the company for five years and has shown an ability to quickly learn complex areas of work. However, he has not been trained in tech hiring, and his job skills are just average. Of the three named employees, one is female and two are male. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is the main law of employment that is pertinent to these three employees. Possible Cases of Discrimination against Cost Club There are three different types of discrimination cases that could be file by the three employees. Race discrimination—Horatio could file a case of this type. He is Hispanic and has not quite grasped the English language. He would have to prove that because he is Hispanic and has a limited knowledge of English, the company terminated him. I really do not think that Horatio would win if he decided to file a racial discrimination case against the company. His minimal skills in health and insurance after six months are more than enough reason to terminate him. Gender discrimination—Diane could file a case of this type. Her attendance problems stem from her children’s sicknesses over the years. She would have to prove that her termination stemmed from her being a female and missing work due to her sick children. We may have a tough time if Diane files this type of case against the company. She is an outstanding worker and her only blemishes are her missed days of work due to her sick children. Religious discrimination—Greg could possibly file a case of this type. His religious convictions prevent him from working on Saturday or Sunday. This forces other workers to work weekends more frequently. Greg would have to prove that the company terminated him because his religion keeps him from working on the weekend. Greg would have a hard time winning a discrimination case if he were to file, because his work is just average at best. With regard to each employee’s possible claim of discrimination, the company should prepare itself by carefully looking into each employee’s work performance employee performance appraisals. After all, the company needs to offer the three workers more than just a â€Å"we had to terminate three people and you were one of them† explanation. Failure to promote qualified employees is a form of adverse employment action. Employee performance appraisals provide written documentation and prove the employer acted fairly in terminating an employee. Documenting Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs)  The Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) is intended to smooth the progress of positive conversation involving an employee and his or her manager and to explain the work performance that needs development. The PIP is put into effect, at the choice of the manager, when it is deemed essential to assist an employee in improving his or her performance. This arrangement allows managers to set objectives, determine procedures, manage evaluation meetings, and record development. No particular quantity of time is needed for a worker to adhere to a PIP. As a matter of fact, if no improvements are made, an employee can be terminated after a number of weeks. Performance Improvement Plans have an awful reputation amongst personnel who view them as the last step in terminating employment. This is because numerous companies apply Performance Improvement Plans the wrong way or use them for generating a lawful safety net prior to ending employment. Performance Improvement Plans should only be applied if a manager sincerely believes that the worker possesses the ability to improve. Every other thing is agonizing for the worker and takes up too much time for human resources staff and managers.
